Sweden
Twinflower has quite an old association with the country of Sweden. The botanic name of the flower ‘Linnaea’ is derived from the famous Swedish botanist Linnaeus who was captivated by the beauty of the flower and who adopted the flower as his personal symbol while he was included in the Swedish nobility in 1757. The five-petal, delicate bell-shaped flower glistens as if it contains glitter dust on the petals. The twinflower is the declared National flower of Sweden.
Twinflower always appears in pairs and this has given birth to its name. These attractive pink flowers with unusually enchanting fragrance can be seen in the open shades or in the dry or moist areas containing sandy or acidic soils of Sweden like meadows, lakes and rivers and are quite familiar to the people of the country who enjoy the beauty of its blossoms from June to August. These impressive flowers are mostly found to adorn the woodland gardens and are also grown in pots.
The plant is quite useful too. The Swedish people use the dried flowers to brew a tea with medicinal properties. The tea is believed to bring relief to the pain caused during pregnancy and labour.
