Holland
The flower fields of Holland spring to life in April and May with the blooming of the colourful and elegant tulips. Nowadays the Netherlands and Tulip are almost synonymous. Therefore, there is no wonder that the flower is selected as the national flower of Holland which is very special to the people of the country.
This excessive admiration for the flower once drew the Netherlands towards bankruptcy. In the 17th century, people were guided by a frenzy termed as ‘tulip mania’. The native people were ready to pay any amount as price for the possession of even a single bulb of the flower. Fortunately, the people came back to their senses later.
Quite interestingly, Holland is the producer of about nine billion bulb flowers every year of which tulip is the most notable. It is a major source of income for the native people of Hollands who grow it in the nurseries for commercial purposes as well as for export.
Every year tulip festivals are celebrated in Holland as the people believe that the flower is a promise to break the monotony of life and it helps give a touch of life and colour to everything.
