Greece
Greece, or as it is officially called the Hellenic Republic, has selected the Bears Breech as the national flower of the country. These beautiful tubular flowers blossom throughout the period from April to June. The flowers are to be seen in the shades of lilac and have their own distinct fragrance.
The bears breech is found all over the country of Greece. Grown in the meadows, in the wood lands, in the cool and rocky shades, the flowers are very familiar to and cherished by the people of Greece. Since they are very showy, the flowers are mostly found to adorn the gardens and as they last quite longer they are widely used as cut flowers.
However, the Greek people regard the bears breech mostly for its medicinal values. The plant contains a good amount of tannin and mucilage which was used in the olden days for joints which were dislocated as well as for burns. Moreover, the plant is well known for providing remedies for irritation in the urinary and digestive tracts. In addition to this, the plant is highly regarded for its useful anti diarrheic, astringent, expectorant properties and even as a detergent which cleans up wounds and ulcers etc.
