Australia
Quite appropriately, Golden Wattle has been declared the national flower of Australia. The flower grows naturally almost all over Australia and is found abundantly in western Victoria, in the southern Eyre Peninsula of South Australia and in southern inland areas of New South Wales. The flower is fluffy in appearance, of golden colour, emitting a mild fragrance and it is found to blossoms primarily in September.
Though the flower has been used as the national floral symbol of Australia since the 20th century, it was officially made the Australian national flower as late as 1988. It was given its rightful place officially on the 1st of September; the very day Australia completed 200 years of independence. Since then, 1st of September is proudly celebrated as the “National Wattle Day” in Australia.
The golden wattle can be commonly found engraved on several national symbols of Australia. You will see it displayed on the Coat and Arms as well as on the Order of the Australia medal. Also, the green and gold shades of the flower are popularly used in the international sporting teams of Australia.
