Clematis
Clematis belongs to the family of Ranunculaceae. The plant can either be a herb or a shrub depending on the different species. These different species of clemantis are known by a host of names like ‘traveller's joy’, ‘leather flower’, ‘vase vine’ and ‘virgin's bower’.
The attractive flowers of clemantis are found in shades of pale green, purple and pale yellow and they blossom profusely throughout summer and in the early days of autumn. After the plant completes flowering, it bears tiny fruits.
Clemantis thrives well in highly fertile, moist soils which should be well drained and it grows best in full sunlight. The plant is grown all over the temperate regions of Northern and Southern Hemispheres as well as in the tropical mountains. The plant, which grows in the cool temperate regions, is deciduous in nature while those growing in the warmer tropical countries are evergreen.
Clemantis is basically a garden plant. The herbaceous species are mainly grown to form a cover for fences or porches. The bushy type of the plant is used as borders in the garden.
