Anemone
The name anemone has a sad bearing because the flower derives its name from a Greek word which means ‘wind’. Greek mythology says that the plant came into life with the blood of Aphrodite’s beloved Adonis who was eventually killed. The flower is also known by the name ‘windflower’, which is a significant name. It suggests that the wind which helps in the blooming of the flower will later carry away the dead petals too.
In spite of this sad note, anemone’s bright and vibrant shades decorate almost everyone’s garden. Three different types of anemone flowers can be found in shades of white, magenta, red, blue and sometimes yellow. Two variants of the flower bloom in spring while the third one blossom in late summer and lasts till fall.
Around 120 species of flowering plants belonging to the genus of anemone are known to currently exist. These perennial herbaceous plants are commonly found in the north and south temperate zones and require well manured soil for growth with sunny to partially sunny climate. Anemones are noted for their root systems which are found to be of three different types namely, rhizomes, tubers and the third is of a fibrous nature.
