Snowberry is a creeper which belongs to the genus of ‘Symphoricarpos’. It is also commonly known as ‘Dwarf Snowberry’, ‘Southern California Snowberry’ and ‘Creeping Snowberry’. Snowberry is found in places like San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the US.

These deciduous plants grow best in the shade of any other big tree. They are familiar in oak woodlands and in evergreen forests. The plant grows horizontally on the ground and it is so delicate that the leaves get burnt on the very first day by the hot sun, however, the plant bears very attractive pink flowers. The small, dainty flowers attract hummingbirds which, in turn, help in the pollination of the flowers. The fruits are the snow-white berries which are found to survive on the plant even when there are no leaves left on it. Though the edible berries are not very tasty, some birds like the thrashers are found to thrive on them when they are really hungry.

Snowberry grows well in clayey soil. The plant can survive extreme drought conditions, and because of their showy appearance, snowberries are a very popular inclusion in the gardens.
