Parsley
The well known herb, parsley, is a member of the carrot family and is famous for the mild aroma of the leaves which is widely used in cooking. This biennial plant can grow to a height of less than 2 feet. The feathery leaves are of dark green colour, which appear in a group of three at the end of the stem and are with curly tips. The plant starts flowering from the second year of its growth.
The tiny flowers are compound, consisting of the ray and disc florets together which gives the flower a single look and are green-yellow in colour.
Parsley is very familiar in Middle East, Europe and America. Because of its showy appearance, parsley is used as an ornamental garden plant and is also used as borders. Fresh parsley leaves are used in garnishing and salad across the world. It is used both in its fresh as well as dried forms as seasoning to flavour different dishes.
Parsley is also noted for its medicinal properties. It is believed to be highly rich in nutrients when compared to other herbs and is a source of vitamin A and C. It is also found to contain riboflavin, niacin and calcium. Parsley is an excellent breath freshener because of the presence of chlorophyll.
