Orange Blossom
The orange tree is more famous for it delicious citrus fruit. But the orange blossom is also well known for its dainty as well as attractive appearance. The orange blossom tree can grow up to a height of about 25 feet. The plant bears five-petal flowers which are white in colour and waxy in appearance. The flowers blossom in spring and have a beautiful citrus fragrance. The fleshy fruit is called the orange, which is also known as ‘navel orange’, and it appears in fall or in winter. The simple evergreen leaves are mostly toothy and arranged alternately. The leaves, when crushed, emit a nice fragrance.
Orange blossom is a native of China, India and Vietnam. But now it is widely found in most tropical countries. The plant grows well in sandy loamy soil which should be moist and it requires bright sunlight. But in some cases they grow well in partial shades too.
The orange blossom water is widely used in the dessert dishes of the Mediterranean and also in some cocktails. Due to the sedative properties of the flowers, they are used to treat insomnia and anxiety. A tea made from the flowers is proved to be effective in curing mild stomach upsets and it also helps improve metabolism.
