Apple blossom belongs to the family of roses. But unlike regular roses, they bear very scanty thorns. Roses in general grow as shrubs, but apple blossom is a fully grown tree. This woody tree bears leaves which are oval shaped, medium to dark green with a hint of copper, and are glossy in nature with fine sharp edges. The fruits are large, shiny and of a bright green colour.

Apple blossom bloom in spring and summer, the size of the flower varies between ½ inch and 6 inches and may contain 5 to 30 petals. The petals are mostly crumpled and round or oval in shape. The colour palette includes pink and white shades for the flower, which appear in groups on a long stalk. The flower is very sensitive and the outer part is easily damaged by frost.

Apple blossom was declared the national flower of Arkansas in 1901. Every year the Arkansas apple blossom festival is held in the town of Lincoln in Washington County.
